Garrett Smith

FTC Program Delivery Partner - Panhandle

Garrett Smith works as the robotics coordinator for the Texas Tech University - College of Engineering Outreach & Engagement Department, working to provide hands-on and project-based learning opportunities in the West Texas area related to robotics, computer science, and technology. Garrett is a Texas Tech University graduate, majoring in Technical Communication where he focused on lessons plans, instructional design, interactive content, app and web development, and user experience.

Garrett is a proud FIRST alumni, graduating from the Lubbock-Cooper High School FIRST Tech Challenge team 11719 IronHook and the community FIRST Robotics Competition team 1817 the RoboRaiders at Texas Tech. Garrett started out as a volunteer in 2018, helping support the Lubbock FTC events, and then came back to mentor the local FTC teams. In 2021, Garrett served as a FIRST Senior Mentor for the West Texas area, helping grow FIRST programs in terms of team and volunteer support. In 2024, Garrett got promoted to become the Robotics Coordinator at Texas Tech, in doing so, taking the role of Program Delivery Partner for FIRST Tech Challenge and FIRST LEGO League in the West/Panhandle Texas area. Garrett is a big advocate for all things FIRST programs, working to provide workshops, alumni engagement opportunities, family night, large outreach events, summer camps, after school clubs, and field trips that help promote, grow, educate, and support FIRST programming in the West Texas area.
