Matt James

Matthew James started his FIRST journey in 2012 when he joined a rookie team at Terra Nova High School in California. He became inspired to continue helping out with FIRST after competing on the world stage twice. After graduating in 2014, he immediately started volunteering as a referee and judge. In 2020, he moved to Texas, where his first competition was the North San Antonio/Hill Country League Tournament during the Ultimate Goal season. In 2024, he took on the role of Program Delivery Coordinator for Central Texas shortly after winning the Volunteer of the Year award at the Area Championship. Outside of FIRST, Matthew is a student at UTSA majoring in Mathematics for Teaching. He also participates in a community orchestra where he currently plays the French horn and contra-alto clarinet in a small group that volunteers at local assisted living facilities to bring music to hospice patients.
